Located on the scenic Avalon Peninsula, the Town of North River offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and community-driven recreation. Whether you are an avid angler, a nature enthusiast, or a family looking for a day of play, there is much to explore in our corner of Newfoundland.
The town’s namesake forms our northwest boundary and is a designated scheduled salmon river. Known for its clear waters and surrounding greenery, the river is a focal point for local recreation.
For those looking to get out on the water, the river offers a diverse range of experiences. You can enjoy relaxing river cruises and nature floats that wind through lush, untouched forested valleys, providing a peaceful escape into the wilderness. If you prefer to set your own pace, self-guided kayaking allows for a serene paddle through our quiet waters.
Those seeking more excitement can take advantage of the river’s wider stretches for tubing and water-skiing, while traditional angling excursions provide the perfect opportunity to reel in a catch and share stories of the one that didn’t get away. For a change of scenery, visitors can even venture beyond the river mouth for a day on the bay to experience the sparkling waves of the coast.
Our community garden is a place for fresh, local growth and neighborly connection. Residents can enjoy a season of growing their own vegetables right here in the heart of town.
Garden Details:
• Garden beds are available for $15.00 for the season.
• Returning gardeners are given first access to renew their plots.
• Spots are limited, so we encourage residents to claim their beds early.
Adjacent to the garden is our community tennis court, providing a space for active recreation and outdoor exercise for residents of all ages.
Dedicated to the memory of a local hero, the Corp. Brendan Jamie Murphy Community Park is a beautiful green space designed for reflection and community gathering. It serves as a peaceful retreat for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the fresh air and natural landscape of the peninsula.
Ideally located beside the Town Hall, this playground is a popular spot for local families. With modern equipment and a safe, accessible location, it provides a central hub for children to play while parents visit the town office or enjoy the nearby sights.
